A Brief History of Christmas on Campus

Christmas on Campus was founded in 1963 by Ellie Kurtz as a way for students to celebrate the Christmas holiday together.  It is an annual celebration held in December on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on the University's campus symbolizing the Catholic and Marianist tradition of the University of Dayton.  When it came to the attention of UD students that many children do not have the opportunity to celebrate the Christmas holiday the tradition of "adopting" a child the night of Christmas on Campus began.  Christmas on Campus does not end with the University of Dayton's campus but extends out into "Christmas off Campus" events held by UD Alumni across not only the United States but the world.
