A Brief History of Men's Basketball

Basketball was introduced at St. Mary's around the turn of the century.  The first basketball game was played against Steele High School in 1903 and St. Mary's offered the best court in the state.  In 1907 the basketball team won the Ohio Championship which symbolized the opening of the Golden Era of Basketball (1907-1918).  From 1908, St. Mary's produced two teams-the Regulars (boarding students) and the Cadets (day students).  In 1913 St. Mary's Cadets annexed the title of World Champion Basketball Team.  Today the men's basketball team competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
