Technology information for spaces and equipment in the Roesch Library.

Scholars' Commons (Roesch Library, Room 245)

Faculty and doctoral students can use this card-accessible space (Room 245) for collegial interaction, independent learning, collaboration, professional development and private reading and writing. It’s open during regular library hours, and reservations are not needed; the space can also be reserved occasionally for small scholarly or professional assemblies. Roesch Library Scholars' Commons with a variety of seating options and collaboration tools. Two televisions are available in this space.

 

The Scholars' Commons Offers:

  • Two cart-mounted televisions with HDMI and VGA video input and 3.5mm audio input.
  • Six to seven lounge-type seating clusters.
  • Partitions and movable dry-erase boards.
  • Floor-to-ceiling bulletin boards.

The Scholars’ Commons is open during regular library hours. Reservations are unnecessary, though hours may be restricted occasionally for planned events. Outside of scheduled events, the noise level in the Scholars' Commons should remain considerate to others who may be writing or reading. Groups may reserve team rooms for more active and vocal studying and collaboration.

Quick Start

  1. Power the cart-mounted display using the remote control or buttons on the side of the display.
  2. Connect your laptop to the VGA / HDMI cable provided with each display. The cable may be coiled and stored on the back of the display cart. If you need a cable or adapter, come to the first-floor Hello Desk to check one out.
  3. Change display input if needed.
  4. If you need audio from the laptop, check that the sound output is not muted and is set to use the display speakers. Adjust the volume of the application and Windows/Mac system volume.
    NOTE: The displays in this room do not utilize the Crestron system. You should see an audio device for the television.

  5. Follow the Automated Captioning instructions if presenting or using Zoom.
  6. (Optional) Follow the Presenter View instructions to use this mode while presenting.
