Setting Up the Meeting Owl for Use

NOTE: The Meeting Owl requires a host computer with meeting software (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams) and an available USB-A port.

  1. Remove the Meeting Owl from the case. You should have the following items:
    • Meeting Owl
    • Power cable
    • Micro USB to USB-A cable
    • USB-A extension cable (use is optional)
  2. Attach the Meeting Owl to the tripod for larger meetings and use the USB-A extension cable to place the device in a central location.
  3. Connect the Meeting Owl to power and connect the USB from the Owl to the host computer. When the Meeting Owl's eyes have stopped pulsing, and you hear a hoot, the Owl is ready.
  4. Place the device centrally to the attendees when using the Meeting Owl in a large room. The Meeting Owl's orientation is unimportant; the device has a 360° camera in the dome.
  5. From the host computer, open the meeting software and select the Meeting Owl as the camera, microphone and speaker.

Meeting Owl Components

The Meeting Owl comes with the following components:

  • Tripod and fabric case
  • Micro USB to USB-A
  • Power cable
  • USB-A extender
  • Meeting Owl (camera and speaker)

When assembling the tripod, rotate the legs outward. To collapse, press the lever and rotate the legs up.

Extending and Collapsing the Tripod

When setting up the tripod, rotate the legs outward and they will automatically lock into place. To collapse the tripod, rotate the leg down slightly, press the lever button and rotate the leg up.

To remove the mounting plate, pull and twist the knob counterclockwise.

To remove the mounting plate from the tripod, pull the knob outward and turn in a counterclockwise motion. You may need to do this several times before removing the mounting plate.

Attach the mounting plate to the Owl and connect the Micro USB and Power cables.

Attach the mounting plate to the bottom of the Meeting Owl and secure it by rotating the screw. Attach the Micro USB and power cable to the Meeting Owl before mounting it to the tripod.

When mounting the Owl to the tripod, turn the knob to secure the Owl and then connect the USB-A to your computer and the power cable to an outlet.

Set the mounting plate on the tripod between and rotate the knob clockwise until the plate is secure. Connect the USB-A cable to your computer and then connect the power cable to a wall outlet.

When you hear the Meeting Owl hoot, it is ready to use and can be selected as the Camera and Speaker in your video teleconference application.

Meeting Owl Pro Controls

On the base of the Owl, you will find:

Meeting Owl disable video icon with a camera and a line through it. Mute Button: This button will mute the audio of the Owl.

+ / - Volume Up/Down Buttons: These buttons will change the volume of the Owl speaker.

Meeting Owl options icon of a black half circle inside a full white circle with a black border. Option Button: This button is located just above the USB and power cables and can be used to turn on the Presenter Enhance mode. This mode will set the Owl to follow the motion of the participant around the room.

 

Tips

  • The Meeting Owl learns where people are sitting in the room. If a new person sits at the table or you speak and then move to another location, the video can take up to 5 seconds to switch.
  • Presenter Enhance will track a presenter as they speak and move around the room. For best performance, stand at least 4 feet away from the Owl. Press the (Meeting Owl options icon of a black half circle inside a full white circle with a black border.) Options button to activate Presenter Enhance mode.
