Dialogue Zone (Roesch Library, Room 107)

The Dialogue Zone is a curricular and co-curricular initiative that builds capacity among students, staff and faculty to learn and practice facilitated dialogue to address difficult issues that arise as we interact in the community. The Dialogue Zone Offers:

  • Wall-mounted television with HDMI and VGA video input and 3.5mm audio input.
  • Ceiling-mounted speakers.
  • Podium and laptop.
  • Three dry-erase boards.

Quick Start

Starting the System

  1. Go to the Crestron control panel to the right of the wall-mounted television.

    1. Press the Power button at the top right to turn on the television.
    2. Press the appropriate Source button.
      • Press Wall VGA to use the in-room laptop.
      • Press Wall HDMI if you will connect your laptop to the wall plate below the television. If you need a cable or adapter, come to the first-floor Hello Desk to check one out.
      • The PC option is not in use.
    3. Adjust the Volume on the Crestron panel with the volume knob. The blue light indicates the current volume level. A mute button is available below the knob.

Shutting the System Down

  1. Press the Power button at the top right of the Crestron panel to turn off the television.
  2. Sign out of the in-room laptop; please do not shut down the computer.

Using a Laptop

  1. Press the Power button on the Crestron control panel to turn on the television.
  2. Connect a laptop to the HDMI port of the input panel located below the television screen. If you need a cable or adapter, come to the first-floor Hello Desk to check one out.
  3. If you need audio from the laptop, check that the sound output is not muted and is set to use the Crestron device. Adjust the volume of the application, Windows/Mac system volume and, if necessary, the volume knob on the Crestron panel.

  4. Follow the Automated Captioning instructions if presenting or using Zoom.
  5. (Optional) Follow the Presenter View instructions to use this mode while presenting.

Using Miracast

Display your screen on the Dialogue Zone television using Miracast.

  1. Press the Apps button on the television remote control (top right on the remote) and select Miracast.
  2. The television should display the following connection setup screen. Look for the Device Name when connecting in the next step.

  3. Connect from your device.
    • Windows (10 and 11)
      1. Press the Windows logo key ⊞ + K to open the casting panel, and a list of available displays should appear after a brief moment.
      2. Select the display matching the Device Name shown on the television. You should not be prompted to provide the PIN.
    • Android (not all devices are compatible)
      1. Open the screen-sharing application for your device that is compatible with Miracast.
        NOTE: Samsung devices call this Smart View.
      2. Select the display matching the Device Name shown on the television. You should not be prompted to provide the PIN.
    • Apple products may require a third-party application to cast to this display. AirPlay is not compatible with this display by default.
