Using the Rode Wireless Go II

RØDE Wireless GO II clip-on microphone with the receiver on the left and the transmitter on the right.

Manuals

Configure the Receiver and Transmitter

  1. Connect the Wireless GO II receiver to a USB adapter using the provided SC7 cable with 3.5mm jacks.
  2. Plug the USB adapter into one of the USB ports on the podium.
  3. Turn on the Wireless GO II receiver and transmitter and confirm they are paired. If the microphone is working, you should see the audio levels moving on the receiver.

Enable Microphone and Speakers on the Computer (Windows)

  1. On the computer, ensure the output speakers are set to "Crestron AMD" and set the volume to 45 (recommended).
  2. Navigate to Settings > System > Sound.
  3. Locate the microphone settings. The Wireless GO II will appear as "Microphone (USB Audio Device)."
  4. Click on Device properties > Additional device properties.
  5. Click on the Listen tab.
  6. Click on the "Listen to this device" checkbox to select it.
  7. Click Apply > OK.

Enable Microphone on MacOS

  1. On the Mac, ensure the output speakers are set to "Crestron AMD" and set the volume to 45 (recommended).
  2. Open the QuickTime Player application.
  3. Navigate to File > New Audio Recording.
  4. In the player window, to the right of the record button, click on the dropdown and select USB microphone.
  5. Slowly adjust the volume on the QuickTime Player so everyone can hear the speaker.

Sound Check

As a general rule, the clip-on microphone should be attached about a hand-span distance (20-30 cm or 8-12 inches) from the mouth.

Give everything a test with the presenter speaking at a conversational volume. Adjust the volume on the Crestron panel to find the best level.

Due to how this microphone is configured, there is a slight delay between the presenter and the ceiling speaker audio. Vocal differences from speaker to speaker may make this delay more noticeable.

No or Low Audio?
  1. Open the Windows Sound Settings (Settings > System > Sound)
  2. While speaking, look at the Output and Input sections. You should see both the Master volume (Output) and Test your microphone (Input) fluctuating.
Computer master volume fluctuating while audio is playing.
    • If the Input  Test your microphone is not fluctuating, check the following:
      • The correct input device is selected.
      • The volume of the microphone is set to 100.
    • If the Output  Master volume is not fluctuating, check the following:
      • The volume is not muted
      • The Listen tab of the microphone is set to "Listen to this device."
    • If both fluctuate,
      • Increase the volume of the computer.
      • Check that the Source Volume on the Crestron touchscreen is not muted.
      • Increase the Source Volume on the Crestron touchscreen. Carefully increase the volume while speaking into the microphone.
      • As a last resort, adjusting the decibel (dB) level on the receiver may be necessary. This value should be changed with caution, as it can produce audible feedback. A dB level of -18 is recommended, but you can increase this value toward 0 to increase the amount of sound the microphone takes in.

Rode Wireless GO II and iPad

When connecting the Wireless Go microphone to iPad, you should use the Apple camera adapter and the supplied RODE USB-A to USB-C cable.
  1. If the iPad has a lightning port instead of USB-C, connect the lightning to Camera adapter to the iPad.
  2. Connect the Rode USB-A to USB-C to the adapter (USB-A) and the receiver (USB-C). It is important to use the Rode cable when connecting a mobile device to the receiver; standard cables are not compatible.
  3. Open the Rode Central Mobile application on the iPad. It should automatically recognize the connected receiver. If it does not, disconnect the cable to the receiver and try again. If the iPad continues not to recognize the receiver, check if there is a firmware update by connecting the receiver to a Windows/Mac with the Rode Central software.
  4. Open the iPad Camera application, switch to video, and create a test recording with the microphone away from the iPad to confirm that everything works as expected.

If you need to mount to a tripod, use the Joy Factory Universal Tablet mount in the ISDA cabinet.

ISDA has a universal tablet mount available for library staff/faculty.

Rode Wireless GO II and Speaker

The Rode Wireless Go II microphone can be used with the Samson Expedition Escape+ speaker system when a microphone is needed in an environment without an integrated microphone system (only the Rose Gallery and Gathering Place have an integrated microphone system). This amplifies a presenter without introducing audio lag/echo in the Collab.

The Rode Wireless Go can be connected to the Samson speaker using a 3.5mm TRS to 1/4in TS cable/adapter.
  1. Important: Turn down the microphone and overall volume before making any connections.

  2. Position the Samson speaker so it points away from the presenter to reduce feedback.

  3. Power the speaker with the switch on the back. This speaker has a rechargeable battery or can be plugged into the wall.

  4. Power on the Rode receiver and transmitter.

  5. Set the Rode receiver gain to -21 dB.

  6. Have the presenter clip the transmitter to their clothing. The clip-on microphone should be attached about a hand-span distance (20-30 cm or 8-12 inches) from the mouth.

  7. Connect the Wireless Go to the speaker mic input with a 3.5 mm (TRS) to 1/4 inch (TS) cable. A 1/4 inch (TS) adapter has one black band (see image). This will convert stereo TRS (two black bands) into mono.

  8. Set the overall volume knob to about 9.

  9. Slowly adjust the microphone volume knob to about 6, depending on the presenter.

Shure ULX-D

Using the Shure ULXD2 (Handheld) and ULXD1 (Lavalier)

  1. The Shure ULXD2 (handheld) and ULXD1 (lavalier) microphones are used in the Rose Gallery and the Gathering Place.
    • Rose Gallery — Microphones are stored in Room 101A in the drawer of the receiver.
    • Gathering Place — Microphones (and stands) are stored in the tech closet near this space. Microphones are stored in the bottom drawer of the AV rack.
  2. Power on the microphone. The handheld power is just below the LCD screen, and the lavalier power is on the top of the bodypack.
Shure wireless handheld and lavalier microphones with the power button labeled.
  3. The microphones should automatically connect to their receivers and be ready for use. Refer to the space-specific instructions for more details on using these microphones in the Rose Gallery or Gathering Place.
  4. Microphone positioning recommendations:
    • Handheld microphones should be off to one side of the mouth but pointing at the center of the mouth, at a distance of 4-12 inches (10-30 cm). A distance of 6 inches (15 cm) is recommended.
    • Lavalier microphones should be attached to the presenter's clothing about a hand-span distance (20-30 cm or 8-12 inches) from the mouth.
