ISDA Student Employee Guide

This guide is designed for students working for the Information Systems and Digital Access (ISDA) team in the University Libraries. It includes guidance on specific technologies, troubleshooting, and basic information about working in the library

Tech Check Checklist

At the beginning of every shift, perform a walkthrough of the building to check on each of the primary technology service points to confirm that equipment is operational and ready for use. Some of these checks are performed daily while others are weekly

7th Floor:

  • Scanner in Marian Library Reading Room. Is it powered on? - Daily

  • Guest workstations - on with internet connection? - Daily

6th Floor:

  • Library catalog kiosk - catalog is running and you can conduct a search - Daily

5th Floor:

  • Library catalog kiosk - catalog is running and you can conduct a search - Daily

4th Floor:

  • Library catalog kiosk - catalog is running and you can conduct a search - Daily

  • Tech table - Display is on and able to connect a laptop via HDMI cable - Weekly

3rd Floor:

Nothing to check

2nd Floor:

  • Scholars Commons - monitors turn on, HDMI cables are present - Daily

  • Collab

    • Log into the computer - Daily

    • Project computer on main projector - Daily

    • Project to all wall monitors - Daily

    • Play audio through ceiling speakers - Daily

  • Room 215

    • Log into the computer - Daily

    • Play audio through ceiling speakers - Daily

    • Confirm display is working - Daily

    • Check HDMI connection to display a laptop - Daily

  • Room 223

    • ViewHub - Weekly

  • Gathering Place

    • Check battery life on wireless mics in tech closet - Weekly

  • Dual Monitor Workstations

    • Check to make sure computers are on - Daily

    • Tidy up the workstations by aligning the monitor arms hiding any dangling cables - Daily

  • Story Studio

    • Test automations in Story Studio to be sure equipment turns on when USB drive is inserted - Daily

    • Clean touch display with an alcohol wipe to remove fingerprints - Weekly

    • Check editing workstations to be sure they are on and connected to Internet - Daily

  • Concourse D

    • Check display monitors to be sure they turn on - Weekly

1st Floor

  • Computer lab - Walk through the computer lab and straighten any workstations, monitors, or peripherals that have been disturbed. Check for any computers that have been turned off - Daily

  • Room 115

    • Check ViewHub - Weekly

  • Printers - Check printers to be sure both are on - Daily

    • Check battery life on wireless mics in tech closet - Weekly

    • Test audio from wireless mics - Weekly
