Zotero: Citation Management

Zotero is a research management software that helps organize downloaded articles, generate citations from PDFs, and format them properly in your manuscript. It is free (and easy!) to use, open source, and will help to simplify all the most tedious aspects of research and writing.

To get the most out of Zotero:

  1. Create an account at
  2. Download the desktop application and sync with your account.
  3. Install the Zotero browser connector.


You can set up a personal My NCBI account that will allow you to save PubMed searches and search results online. Register here, then access your Dashboard within PubMed.
