Open Educational Resources (OERs)

The library can store and make available content at no cost to the publishing authors in eCommons. Several UD faculty members have created OERs for their courses, some examples of which are linked below.

Your liaison librarian(s) can talk with you about available grants and other resources to get you started on the process of creating your own OER.

Maureen Schlangen oversees eCommons, UD's institutional repository of scholarly work and promotes and grows scholarly and archival content in the repository. Maureen can provide guidance throughout the process, including determinations about creative commons or other licenses.

Through University of Dayton's membership in OhioLINK, any UD full-time or part-time faculty is eligible to apply for a $650 stipend to review and identify opportunities for openly licensed, library-licensed, or low-cost resource in a course they are teaching.

Create, edit, and curate OERs with the Open Author tool

Currently on Version 3.0, this is a "living repository of collective knowledge," written to equip all those who want to publish open textbooks with the resources they need.

Content includes a checklist for getting started, publishing program case studies, textbook organization and elements, writing resources and an overview of useful tools.

In addition to talking with the Libraries, this tool from Creative Commons gives some guidance about the different types of CC licenses.
