The above visual uses the UD fiscal year (FY) schedule of July 1st - June 30th.
The downloads (or retrievals) being measured include a variety of different e-content: e-journal articles, conference proceedings, e-book chapters, or entire e-book downloads. Full text is "retrieved" when it is viewed in full; meaning that the full text can be retrieved as a full-text download or it can be retrieved by viewing the full text within the end user's browser as html.
For ScienceDirect, OhioLINK's Electronic Journal Center (EJC), EBSCO, SpringerLINK, Wiley Online Library, and ACS, the data being considered had to meet the following criteria: the title of the e-journal, e-book, conference proceeding, or e-book chapter had to have "engineer*". This captured all variations of the ending ("engineering," "engineers," or "engineered").
Controlled (non-open access) subscription content is measured, as well as the usage of open access (OA) content by students/faculty/staff within the University of Dayton's IP ranges. For platforms with OA content, typically 90% of all retrievals is for non-OA controlled content.
