UD Commitment to LGBTQ+ Inclusion

The University of Dayton is committed to honoring the value and dignity of all people, including those who are LGBTQ+. Our LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and alumni — as well as those who have family, friends and loved ones who identify as LGBTQ+ — are integral to our community. UD’s Brook Center for Empowerment and Wellbeing provides programming, resources and support for LGBTQ+ students. Guided by our Catholic and Marianist values, the University of Dayton is committed to honoring the intrinsic value and dignity of all people. The Ally+ Workshop
The mission of the Ally+ Workshop series is to provide relevant information, support, and resources, while building a network of allies who are "all in" to enhancing the campus and local community’s understanding of gender and sexuality.
The Brook Center LGBTQ+ Student Services
Guided by its Catholic and Marianist values, the University of Dayton calls all of its members to commit to "honoring the intrinsic value and dignity of all people" (Presidential Statement on Diversity & Inclusion). The Brook Center honors that commitment by housing an Assistant Director of LGBTQ+ Education who connects students with resources, provides support, and develops campus wide programming. Our goal is to foster a more welcoming campus community where all students who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) feel welcomed, respected, safe, and valued as full members of the University of Dayton community.
Counseling Center
The UD Counseling Center provides mental health services to University of Dayton undergraduate and graduate students.
Faithful Ally Retreat
The Faithful Ally retreat invites all students to explore how they are seen, known, and loved by God. Open to both LGBTQ+ community members and allies, participants will spend the weekend together exploring the intersection of faith and identity. Through prayer, sharing, and hopefully a few laughs, our goal is to provide a comfortable space for all to encounter Christ.
LGBTQ+ and Allyship Ministry (Campus Ministry)
Rooted in a Catholic and Marianist identity as articulated through Catholic Social Tradition, the LGBTQ+ and Allyship Ministry at the University of Dayton seeks to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for spiritual and personal growth.
LGBTQ+ and Allied Student Groups
The University of Dayton values the importance of everyone finding their community on campus, whether it relates to a special interest, an experience, an identity, or a combination of these topics. These are opportunities to engage in community through organizations, retreats, and residential living.

Chosen Name Policy
Students, faculty, staff, and alumni who identify themselves by a name other than their Legal Name may request use of a Chosen Name.
Students, faculty, and staff are expected to refer to individuals by their Chosen Name unless otherwise requested by that individual. The intentional or persistent refusal to utilize an individual's Chosen Name is a violation of University policy.

Additional information regarding the Chosen Name policy:

Students can report their chosen name by contacting Flyer Student Services using their University e-mail account at fss@udayton.edu, or visiting the office in St. Mary’s Hall, room 108.
Faculty and staff may report their chosen name by contacting Human Resources using their University e-mail account at hr@udayton.edu, or visiting the office in St. Mary’s Hall, room 304.
Alumni can report their chosen name by contacting Alumni Relations by e-mailing alumni@udayton.edu, or visiting the office on the 5th floor of Daniel J. Curran Place.
Once Flyer Student Services (students) or HR (faculty and staff) initiates the change request in Banner, chosen name information should be available in other university systems within 24 hours (updates take place overnight). Students and employees can check their profile on Porches. Students can also log into their mobile credentials via the GET Mobile app to see if their name has been updated.

Affinity Groups

QDayton: The LGBTQ+ Affinity Group at UD

Because of the University of Dayton's mission to respect the inherent dignity of every human being, employees* identifying as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, + (LGBTQ+) are a valued part of the campus community. Through our visible and vocal presence on campus, the LGBTQ+ Affinity Group aims to provide a supportive, affirming, and safe environment for LGBTQ+ employees at UD through collegial gatherings, campus dialogue, and community awareness. The Group is open to LGBTQ+ university employees interested in promoting equality for the LGBTQ+ community and supporting informed dialogue about LGBTQ+ issues on campus.
