Introduction to PDF Accessibility

What is a PDF?

The Portable Document Format (PDF) is an electronic document file type that can be viewed, printed, or shared electronically. It consists of three components:

  1. Physical view
  2. Content view
  3. Tags Structure Tree

The Physical view shows a visual representation of the document's text and graphics. This view is similar to how a PDF would appear when printed.

The Content view shows the actual textual and graphical information within the PDF. To view the Content in Foxit Pro PDF Editor, go to the View Tab > View Setting > Navigation Panels > Content. This will open up the Content panel.

The Tag Structure Tree sets the structure and reading order of the document using tags. Tags allows the content creator to specify the type of content (such as headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, and more). To view the Tag Structure Tree in Foxit Pro PDF Editor, go to the View Tab > View Setting > Navigation Panels > Tags. This will open up the Tags panel.
