Story Studio

A reference guide for how to use the Story Studio, an easy-to-use video recording and editing space.

To get started recording, just follow the instructions on the small touch screen panel on the technology cart in the studio.

Helpful tips:

  • Keep your USB drive plugged into the port marked RECORD until your video is successfully saved.
  • If you want to do multiple takes, it may be easier to just stand still for a few seconds and begin again rather than stop the recording and restart the entire process. The editing platform makes it easy to select your preferred sequences.
  • The large background screen on the wall is a touchscreen.
  • You can customize the background screen: Either bring a second USB drive with additional content or download items from online. Save the item to the desktop and open it to display full-screen. If it’s a photo, you can also right-click on it and select “Set as desktop background."
  • Please make sure you have enough space on your USB drive to record videos!
  • Once you’ve finished recording, the Story Studio system automatically saves your work to your USB drive. Press “finished recording” on the Story Studio screen and remove your USB drive. Please only remove your USB drive after you press “finished recording!”

  • What file format is my video saved under?
    • Recordings are saved in the MP4 format and saved in 720p video quality.
  • Can I save my video to a Hard Drive? Can I only use a USB?
    • No, the Story Studio technology requires USB drives formatted in FAT32 only. Please follow the instructions provided on the Story Studio mini screen on how to record.
  • Where can I get a USB drive?
    • Students may bring their own USB drive to record videos in the Story Studio. If a student does not own a USB, they may purchase one from the vending machines on the first floor of Roesch Library.
  • How can I access my saved files?
    • Students can access their saved files by plugging in their USB drive into one of the three editing stations  (with monitors provided) outside of the Story Studio or using your own device and preferred software.
  • The touchscreen panel in the Story Studio  is telling me to plug in my USB and “Display My Content.” How do I turn on the computer so I can display my content?
    • If you have a separate USB with content you wish to display on the Story Studio screen, please plug it in the Display My Content slot labeled in orange. If this does not apply, ignore the message and press continue. The more optimal way to display visual content is by logging into the Story Studio computer with the keyboard provided.
    • After plugging in your USB, the Story Studio system will automatically turn on. You will see a login screen. Enter your UD username and password to login to the computer. Google Chrome, Powerpoint, along with other software are already provided, and you can browse orupload your content as if it were a regular computer.
