Dr. Herbenick’s research was very wide in scope and included papers and published articles on philosophers such as St. Augustine and Thomas Aquinas. Dr. Herbenick wrote a textbook that was published in 1983 called Basic Logic. He also wrote a book titled Andy Worhol’s Religious and Ethnic Roots: The Carpatho-Rusyn Influence on His Art which was published in 1997 and won the Adele Mellen Prize for Significant Contribution to Scholarship. Shortly before he died, Dr. Herbenick also completed a manuscript for a book called On the Erudition of the Historical St. Patrick which was edited and published with the help of his colleagues and family after he died unexpectedly in April 1999.
Dr. Herbenick published an article in Czech which appeared in Echo Duchovneho Prudenia Dneska (a Czech publication).
Dr. Raymond Herbenick was a philosophy professor at the University of Dayton from 1968-1999. He served as the chair of the Philosophy Department from 1973-1981. Courses he taught included: introduction to philosophy, family ethics, practical logic, ethics, and information ethics. He also helped develop interdisciplinary studies; particularly, the University of Dayton’s CORE program which is a unique interdisciplinary curriculum program consisting of a sequence of courses that fulfill the University's General Education Requirements. Dr. Herbenick was also an advisor for the Center of International Programs. His work in these two programs reflects his dedication to liberal arts education at UD.
